Chicago Northwestern Railroad

Unlike the Burlington Northern and the Santa Fe, the Chicago Northwestern's mainline did not go all the way to the west coast. Used as a haulage partner and later a merger partner with the Union Pacific Railroad, the Chicago Northwestern's line ran west from Chicago, and terminated with a connection to Union Pacific at Fremont, Nebraska. Traffic on this line is still intermodal, but with a higher concentration of unit coal and grain. Traffic also includes several manifest freights. In addition to the east and west mainline, there is a secondary line branching off at Nelson, Illinois and terminating in St. Louis, Missouri.
